As an app development company, we’re busy day in and day out further developing the Threema apps. Here’s a quick look at what we’re currently working on.
A lot has already happened at Threema in the first half of this year: in Threema Work for iOS, screenshots can now be prevented, we adapted the iOS app to Apple’s new Liquid Glass design, DualLock for Threema OnPrem was released, and in Threema Work, you can now set an availability status.
We’ve also set our sights on a lot for the second half of the year and beyond. Here’s a look at our roadmap:
These features are in the final stages of development. This means we’re actively working on them and are already discussing the corresponding releases.
EasyConnect
When exchanging information with external contacts, employees often resort to private messengers because no shared business solution is available. However, this carries risks. EasyConnect is designed to address this challenge by quickly and easily integrating third parties into Threema Work and Threema OnPrem using a QR code.
TrustCircles
In large organizations, all employees must be able to quickly and easily find and contact anyone in the company – regardless of department or location. At the same time, roles such as those of CEOs or department heads require special protection against unwanted inquiries.
With TrustCircles, certain users or groups can be made visible or hidden from others. This ensures that internal communication remains smooth and efficient, while privacy is consistently protected and hierarchies are maintained.
Through the Lighthouse Program, existing customers already have the opportunity to test the following features in advance and provide input as they are developed.
SecureShare
Whether it’s a presentation, a multi-page document, or a video: sometimes files are too large to send securely via business messengers. SecureShare makes file sharing simple, flexible, and secure. Large files can be transferred effortlessly and without being constrained by size limits or having to compromise on security.
AIBridge
The benefits of artificial intelligence are undeniable, but they also come with a number of challenges. One of these is making it as easy as possible to deploy a tested AI solution within the company. With the planned AIBridge, an internal AI solution can be connected with Threema Work or Threema OnPrem, allowing users to access it directly within their familiar messaging environment.
Initial planning for these features has been completed, and work is already underway. A release date has not yet been set.
Conferencing
The conferencing feature enables secure and hassle-free meetings, even with external participants. Group calls are initiated directly within the familiar environment of the business messenger, while external participants can easily join via a link in their browser without having to download the app.
1:1 Calls on Desktop
While group calls have been available in Threema 2.0 for desktop (beta) for some time, 1-on-1 calls are still pending. Since they are based on different technology than group calls, they require significant additional development effort. However, the feature is firmly on our roadmap.
Cross-Platform Backups
Currently, it is not possible to transfer chat histories and media from an Android device to an iPhone (or vice versa) because backups are not compatible across different platforms. The platform-independent backup solution Threema Safe only allows you to transfer the most important Threema data, such as your ID, contacts, and group memberships.
In the future, a standardized backup system should make it possible to create and restore backups across platforms, allowing you to continue using Threema Work on any new device just as before.
Even though they are not yet actively in development, the following features are still worth mentioning, as they are already planned on the long-term roadmap.
BCM cockpit: A dedicated tool for business continuity management where BCM plans and documentation can be securely stored.
Single sign-on (SSO): Enables the integration of Threema Work credentials into the company identity management system (e.g., via Active Directory), so that separate login credentials are no longer required for the app.
Standalone app for desktop: Allows users to use Threema Work without first installing the app on a mobile device.
